Pathways.
State Teams
At Handball Queensland, we are committed to nurturing talent and providing clear pathways for athletes to progress through the state team system. Our State Teams Pathways are designed to identify, develop, and elevate players, giving them the opportunity to compete at higher levels and represent Queensland on the national stage.
The journey begins with participation in local and regional competitions, where athletes demonstrate their skills and commitment. Promising players are then invited to join state development squads, where they receive specialised training focused on improving technical abilities, tactical understanding, and physical conditioning.
From the development squads, athletes can progress to state representative teams, competing in prestigious tournaments like the Australian National Handball Championship. These events provide invaluable experience against top-tier competition, helping players refine their game and prepare for higher challenges.
Handball Queensland also offers pathways for elite athletes aiming to reach National team selection. Through partnerships with national coaching staff and performance programmes, state team players have the chance to join the ranks of Australia’s best.
Our pathway is supported by experienced coaches, performance analysts, and a network of resources to ensure every athlete reaches their full potential. We are committed to creating an environment where players can thrive, both on and off the court.
Whether you’re an aspiring junior or a seasoned player looking to take the next step, Handball Queensland’s State Teams Pathways provide the guidance and support needed to achieve your goals. For more information on how to get involved, contact us at info@handballqld.com.au

Coaches and Officials
Handball Queensland is dedicated to developing the sport through structured coaching and officiating pathways. These programs provide the skills and knowledge needed to excel, ensuring the sport thrives at all levels.
The Coaching Pathway begins with the Foundation Level, teaching fundamental skills, game rules, and communication strategies. The Intermediate Level focuses on player development and team management, while the Advanced Level prepares experienced coaches for high-performance environments with tactical and leadership training.
The Officiating Pathway starts with the Introductory Officiating Course, covering basic rules and referee mechanics. Progress to Level 1 Referee Accreditation to officiate local competitions, and then to Level 2, focusing on advanced scenarios and national-level games.
Both pathways blend theory and practice to ensure participants are ready for real-world challenges. Handball Queensland also offers workshops, mentoring, and access to the latest resources to support ongoing growth.
Whether you’re a former player or a sports enthusiast, these pathways offer a chance to contribute to handball’s success.
